VIRTUAL MUSEUM
EXPLORE WRECKS LIKE NEVER BEFORE
Explore the seabed with cutting-edge technology: immersive videos, spectacular 360° reproductions, high-resolution photographs and a 3D version of the wreck will offer you a unique and engaging experience.
Underwaterhistory.org is a virtual museum project by SDSS to survey, document, and share the stories of aircraft and naval wrecks from the WWII Battle of the Mediterranean Convoys. We document wrecks, many in Sicilian waters, in collaboration with the Sicily Region’s Superintendency of the Sea and the Maritime Museum of Palermo, producing videos, photos, and 3D photogrammetric models for its archive and website.
The project also advocates for recognizing significant wrecks as “submerged places of memory” and underwater war cemeteries to protect this heritage. To date, dozens of wrecks at various depths have been recorded, with documentation ranging from basic video to high-quality 3D models available online.
