Advancing Diving Physiology Through Collaboration

Our collaboration with DAN Europe Research Foundation has been ongoing for many years and has progressively developed into increasingly ambitious projects dedicated to the study of diving physiology.

Today, DAN Europe is one of the few organizations able to invest significant resources in research on the physiology of underwater diving. Our team of technical divers, engaged in exploration and documentation projects often characterized by deep dives and complex decompression profiles, provides a particularly valuable operational context for scientific research in this field.

Field Data Collection and Physiological Monitoring

Within this framework, every year teams of researchers from DAN Europe join our field activities in order to collect physiological data and parameters before, during, and after our dives. This represents a valuable opportunity to observe and analyze, in real operational conditions, the human body’s responses to highly demanding technical dives.

The data collected include cardio-respiratory recordings, precordial Doppler measurements, cardiac ultrasound examinations, RaR time recording, bioimpedance measurements, and numerous other physiological parameters.

Real-Time Physiological Monitoring Technologies

During these sessions, researchers also experiment with underwater-to-surface telemetry techniques, together with specially designed housings and transmission systems that allow real-time monitoring of certain physiological parameters of divers during the dive.

Decompression Studies in Deep Rebreather Diving

Of particular relevance are also the observational data related to decompression procedures during deep rebreather dives conducted over several consecutive days, an area that is still relatively under-documented in the scientific literature.

Altogether, these observations and measurements contribute to a growing body of studies addressing various aspects of diving physiology, helping to expand scientific knowledge about one of the most extreme environments in which humans operate while also providing valuable insights for improving the safety and understanding of deep technical diving.
